Junkyard Dogs cont. [set to Monday evening]
TRIGGER WARNINGS: physical violence and hate speech (including derogatory slurs)
"Shit."
Jason just arrived home for the night, Iris already in the kitchen preparing dinner. Usually he beats her home, but he's been working later hours to help Davin out at the shop. He has no complaints about it. He enjoys the work, joking around with Davin, and the extra money gets him one step closer to rebuilding his bike. Well, he does have a complaint. Two actually. Mel and Hank. The guys are lazy, rude, gross, and just outright assholes, even to Jason just because he's friends with Davin. And as much as he wants to start something every time they pass by with a wise crack, he's bit his tongue and backed off. Davin has enough on his plate. Jason doesn't need to add more.
Patting down his pockets, Jason looks at Alfredo. "Did you steal my keys?" The dog cocks his head before padding off to lay by Iris' feet, a pathetic attempt to look cute and beg for table scraps. Jason rechecks his coat before he realizes he must have left his keys at the shop. "Babe, I gotta go back to work. I'll be back in ten." With a kiss to her shoulder, Jason leaves the apartment, jogging down the stairs and back out into the cold.
He tugs on his coat and baseball cap as he makes his way across the street and down the several blocks to the shop. Nothing seems out of place tonight, so when Jason's just a block away from work and spots Mel and Hank, he stops and checks his phone. They're leaving early...which is just plain annoying. And typical.
"Hey!" The pair practically jump and turn to look at Jason. And that's when he realizes something's wrong. Hank looks scared as shit and Mel angrier than Jason has ever seen. Both look worse for wear.
"Fuck off!" Mel growls, inching away as Jason walks closer.
"What's going o-" He's cut short when Hank steps between them and Jason finally sees a cut on Hank's cheek. He looks at the man's hands, already balled up into fists. They're scuffed and bloody. And definitely not his own blood. He glances around Hank to look at Mel whose knuckles are the same and his expression turns angry.
"What the fuck did you do." He already knows. Jason used to fight for money. He knows what a brawl looks like, he knows how knuckles look. And it was only a matter of time before things blew up at the shop. He figured Mel would take a swing at Davin, but by the looks of it, the pair got in more than that.
"I said fuck off." Mel spits at the ground and turns away from Jason, an attempt to make a beeline out of the area. Hank's quick on his heels, but Jason pushes in front of them.
"What, couldn't handle the truth?" he asks, pushing a hand to Mel's chest to slow him down. "My one year old nephew could do better work than you two, you got zero work ethics, and a talented guy passes you up on a promotion and you really think that's not your own fucking fault?"
Mel snarls, looking down at Jason's hand on his chest but doesn't make a move. "You're pathetic," Jason continues. "You're both sorry human beings. People are dying, actually starving, for a job and you two get your feelings hurt because Davin doesn't let you skate by. And because he's gay? Get over yourselves." He's more than pissed. Jason hasn't been this angry in years. "I'll ask again. What the fuck did you do?"
Mel doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. He pushes forward and gives Jason a dark grin. "I beat the shit out of his little fairy ass."
That's all it takes, really. Jason swings and his fist connects with Mel's jaw. Hank immediately rushes Jason, smacking his shoulder into his stomach as he shoves Jason to the ground, swearing and growling, "I'll fucking kill you!"
They scuffle on the ground before Hank gets as solid punch to Jason's cheek and he swears from the pain. Guy's got a mean left hook. When he opens his eyes, Mel is standing over him. "You one of 'em too?" he shouts, kicking Jason's arm. He has no idea what the hell the guy's talking about, but a knee to Hank's groin is all it takes for Jason to roll out from under the idiot. He elbows the back of Mel's knee then rolls him up in a hold in one quick movement.
"Where's Davin!" he growls, his breath quick.
Mel spits in the dirt. "Are you one o' 'em!!"
"What the fuck are you on about?"
"Fuckin' lights! Moving shit!"
Jason finally understands. Davin must have defended himself which brings an overwhelming wave of relief over him. "Yeah, I am." It's the first time in his life Jason has admitted to being a witch and admitted it with pride. His family was shit about magic, but since arriving in Siren Cove, he's met more than a few individuals who have convinced him that not everyone's as bad as his parents. And suddenly he wishes he had their powers, something he hasn't felt since he was eight. "Where's Davin," he repeats.
"Shop, the fuckin' princess." Jason tugs Mel's arm behind his back and Mel cries out in pain.
"Both of you get the fuck out of here and don't even think about coming back."
Hank's already on his feet, backing away to keep a safe distance. Jason releases his hold on Mel who clambers to his feet and for a brief second, looks like he wants to go after Jason again. Instead, he flips his middle finger at Jason and rushes off.
Jason hauls himself to his feet and watches as the guys disappear before he takes off running to the garage. When he swings open the door, it's a fucking mess. He moves past the cars and broken glass, turns into the office, and stops short when he finds Davin on the ground. It's not good. Jason kneels down, nudging him gently, even as panic hits him. He grabs his phone from his coat pocket and dials 911.
"Davin...Dav, wake up. Come on. Wake up."
"Shit."

He grabs his phone from his coat pocket and dials 911.
"Davin...Dav, wake up. Come on. Wake up."

Davin nods along to what Jason is saying because he knows it's true. He used what he had at his disposal to protect himself. But still, what he has is kind of terrifying when he needs it to be.
He watches as Jason cleans him up and looks a little startled when red lights start flashing through the windows. He'd forgotten that Jason had called an ambulance, and he really doesn't want to go. "Can't ya just tell him that I'm in good hands?" He gestures towards the bloodstained shop rag with a small smile. "Ya totally got it covered."

He looks out the window when Davin groans, feeling an immediate sense of relief at the sight of the ambulance. "You're probably gonna need stitches. And you do not want me stitching you up," he chuckles as he lifts the hem of his shirt to reveal several nasty scars. "Trust me." Jason drops his shirt back down and gets to his feet, leaning out the office door to greet the paramedics. "He's in here."

He panics a little when the paramedics file in, enough that the lights flicker briefly. Normally, he has no problem with strangers but normally he hasn't just gotten the shit beat out of him. He doesn't exactly want people he doesn't trust touching him.
They rush him and shine a light in his eyes, asking him his name and what happened. Davin answers the first and gives them a sour look at the second, because he thinks that it's fairly obvious. They poke and prod him and Davin looks distressed, craning his head around to look for Jason.

Jason watches from behind the paramedics, wanting to stay out of their way. But when he catches Davin looking for him, he pushes through, placing a hand on his shoulder as reassurance. "It was a fist fight. Ribs, cuts, bones...look, it's been a rough night. Can we just get on with this?" he gestures to their prodding. He wants Davin looked at, to make sure there's no internal damage. Doesn't mean he needs a crowd making him uncomfortable.
A few of the paramedics back off so only one works on Davin. Another stops at Jason, checking the cut on his cheek. When they're ready, they start to pull a gurney out but Jason stops them just inside the door of the shop. He kneels down beside Davin. "You didn't wanna roll out on a gurney, right? Think you can make it in there if I help ya?" He nods his head to the ambulance. "I'll be at your side the whole time. Even on the ride."

The paramedics nod and one of them gives him a look full of pity, and Davin swallows hard and looks away. Jason's hand is on his shoulder and Davin is grateful for it, looking up at him and sniffling a bit.
When Jason offers to help him up, he nods and holds out his hand. One of the paramedics tuts at them. "He really should - "
"I can walk," Davin says stubbornly, and lets Jason help him up. He cries out from the pain but manages to get mostly upright, leaning heavily against Jason as they shuffle out to the ambulance. He's getting blood all over Jason's clothes but he doesn't seem to mind, and Davin is so fucking grateful for him. "Thank you."

Jason climbs up into the ambulance next and then the paramedics pile in. They slam the door shut, hit the lights, and drive off. Two of the paramedics start to clean more of Davin's wounds. Jason watches, crouching close so Davin can concentrate on him, and he takes Davin's hand in his. He's covered in the guy's blood, but that's the least of his worries now. "Just a little longer and you'll be home, bud."
no subject
They get him into the ambulance and Davin clutches at Jason's hand, watching his face helplessly as the paramedics work. His shirt is soaked with blood and they cut it off of him, carefully pulling it away from his skin.
There's a large cut over his ribs where one of the kicks broke skin and it's bleeding freely, and the sorest parts are already bruising.
He's in so much pain that he's panting and the sight of his injuries makes his stomach roll. They start cataloging all of his injuries out loud and he just can't take it. He gives Jason another long look and squeezes his hand before closing his eyes and stops listening, letting consciousness slip away just so he doesn't have to hurt anymore.
