It's a shitty way to start your day--waking up stiff, cold, and wet from a morning drizzle. Jason blinks, groans, and rubs his eyes, trying to quickly adjust to the blinding sun. As soon as he's awake, Alfredo is on his lap, soaking wet but happy all the same. The dog licks some dirt off his face while Jason chuckles. "No, Alfredo. I'm not food."

He sits up, stripping off his jacket and stuffing it into his backpack as he speaks to Alfredo. "Think we could spring for some coffee today? It'd be nice to have something hot." He reaches down to pat the dog's head as he wags his tail, a gesture Jason takes as a push toward coffee. He double checks his wallet and grins. "Coffee it is then."

The new town is easy enough to navigate and pretty soon, he's found what appears to be a coffee shop. Quill. Looks like any other small town coffee shop he's visited, but he's pleasantly surprised when he steps inside after tethering Alfredo to a bike rack outside. It looks like a nice place he can stow away during a rainy day.

He orders coffee, black, and a muffin, going back outside to sit on the curb next to Alfredo. As he sips the coffee, humming happily, he holds out the muffin for the dog to nibble on.

“Yeah. Well, I always wanted to come to the States. And given the nature of this town, it seemed appropriate.” So far it had been a good decision, everything she’d seen from the Tanners suggested she wouldn’t feel any guilt for handing the baby over to them; they had everything she thought parents should be. And Mrs Tanner reminded her a little of her own mother. “Alaska? You’re pretty far yourself. Guess there is a little less snow here though.” Not that she’d ever been to Alaska, but it was further from the equator than Scotland was, and they had some bitterly cold and snowy winters.

Bonnie remembered the neighbour of her first childhood home having a poodle- the dog used to run away all the time for no apparent reason, especially since it came back. "Sounds like he's very well trained."

Mr Tanner had explained to her that people somehow found themselves in Siren Cove without knowing about the high witch population. And that it was better to gloss over the fact, even though some residents were pretty loose lipped about the fact. “No, just that they’re very good at education and self-discovery here,” she lied quickly, although finding out about the supernatural probably was very educational. “Urgh, ice is the worst.”

“Well, still, I know people not that logical so he’s doing pretty well.”

“Yes and no.” Bonnie answered, feeling guilty that she wasn’t just stating it as it was. But it wasn’t exactly her secret to keep and she wasn’t the party at risk if the wrong kind of strangers came to town. “There have been some… incidents recently,” she warned, “People have been hurt – so just be careful.”

“Psychology, maybe sociology. People thinking and interacting, the best and worst of humanity in the world right? I just always found that stuff fascinating. How people can cast people aside for something they disagree with or disapprove of. Sorry, that was heavy."

Hopefully he was going to be able to cope with the stuff that happened in this town. She’d thankfully avoided being directly involved herself, but the Tanners had been repairing the wall outside their house when she got to their house after a ‘hydra’ attack. “Excellent, newbies got to have each other’s backs right?”

“Me? No, not at all. I just make a lot of terrible decisions that make making analogies in that area much easier,” she laughed.

“Yeah, I think they’ve had a bit of an influx recently, which is always helpful for not feeling so much like an outsider.” She replied, frowning up at the sky where the clouds were getting darker.

She waved a hand and let out a small hum of disagreement, “Anyway, enough about me. You said you were here for work – what is it that you do?”

“Oh wow, are there a lot of fish in the dock? I used to go fishing with my Da- step Dad.” She corrected herself, although it always felt dirty referring to him with step in front of his title; despite him having not been in her life longer than he had been in it so far. “Wasn’t really my thing, but a good bonding experience and all.”

“I’ll make a point to try somewhere that serves fish then – won’t be quite like fish ‘n’ chips at home, but what canny yah do?” At that moment a droplet of rain landed on her face, at which she quickly pulled a face, scrunching up her nose. “Lovely,” she stated a little sarcastically, quickly putting her umbrella up, “I should probably let you get somewhere dry.”

“You too, bye-bye Jason, bye Alfredo” she replied, returning the wave and wandering off in search of the library she’d seen the previous day.

About

Jason can be found all over town with his dog, Alfredo. He's available for any odd-jobs, but spends most of his time on a fishing boat.
